Derek Hough is more than a Dancing with the Stars alum. He’s also one of the celebrity judges for NBC’s new dance show World of Dance, where he joins J-Lo, Ne-Yo, and host Jenna Dewan Tatum in watching the world’s best dancers compete for an incredible $1 million dollar prize. But when he’s not dancing, he’s singing—and even directing music videos.

In his new music video for his cover of Ashes of Eden, Hough shows off his moves and emotion in a black-and-white music video featuring himself, as well as other dancers, in beautiful motion. The video was an important piece for Hough, who had vocal surgery last year and couldn’t speak for a month. During that time, he reflected about a lot of life and was particularly drawn to the song, originally by the band Breaking Benjamin.

Having had no voice at the time, it’s no surprise that Hough chose to bring the song to life through movement. A master dancer, he’s excited to lend his expertise to World of Dance, as he recently told Entertainment Weekly. He says the judges table was an awesome experience, even when it got a little testy.

“We’ve had full-blown arguments after a performance where we’re behind the desk and I just straight-out disagree with some of their things, and with their opinions. But that’s what makes us judges. We’re going to have different opinions, and we’re going to have conflicting ideas. I think ’cause we’re so passionate about it, we’re so invested. And we love dance. We’re all such fans of dance, and we want to make this the best we can possibly make it.”

To see Hough in action at the judge’s table, tune into NBC’s World of Dance May 30th at 10/9 central and watch the world’s best dancers battle it out for a whopping $1 million prize.
