NBC’s World of Dance features the world’s best dancers competing for a $1 million prize. Today, we’re chatting with The Posse, a talented group that is no stranger to the spotlight.

The Posse received international exposure after working with retailer H&M and superstars Justin Bieber and Sia, and they also happen to be reigning National Grand Champions at the Radix Dance Convention. We caught up with the memebers—Jadyn Hernandez, Priscilla Tom, Kina Siu, Janette Solorzano, Sydney Centeno, Emily Joe, and Jana Tsai—to find out what it was like to compete, who their favorite judges were, and more.

The Posse

Style: Contemporary (7 members)

Category: Team

From: San Jose, California

WOD: What was the best part of competing in World of Dance?

Jadyn: The best part was meeting the amazingly talented contestants and meeting the phenomenal judges in person, especially J-Lo!

Kina: My favorite part was actually performing in front of Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough, and Ne-Yo. With all the excitement from the audience, the lights, and cameras, it just got so real for me, and I feel I danced better than I thought I could. All that energy brought out something in me that I didn’t know I had; it felt like another level of dancing, so that was really cool.

WOD: Who’s your favorite judge, and why?

Janette: It’s hard to choose because they’re all amazing, but I’m going to have to with J-Lo because she’s had such a successful career and has proven that there are no limits in pursuing your dreams. You can accomplish anything you aim for; hopefully, one day I get to be as famous as her.

Priscilla: I loved all of the judges!  They are all super inspiring and gave us feedback and comments to encourage us to become stronger dancers.  J-Lo is particularly sweet. She saw the message we tried to convey in our dances, and it was such an emotional moment for me when she said our dances inspired her!

WOD: What do you love most about dance?

Kina: Well, what’s there not to love? Dance is there for me all the time. I dance when I’m happy, sad, feeling strong, feeling lonely or stressed out and I need to take my mind off something. I even dance for no reason, like when I am shopping at the mall, at Costco, or in the aisles of Target. That’s why I love dance-—it’s my whole life. I don’t see it as a separate thing.

Janette: I love to compete and showcase everything that is choreographed for us, but I think being able to inspire others with our dancing makes dance more meaningful.

Jadyn: It’s the feeling I get when I dance. It makes me feel happy inside and out. It’s about performing and sharing a story. When I’m dancing, I can be whoever I want to be and spread my message.

WOD: Why do you think the world needs dance?

Priscilla: The world needs dance because dance can be an outlet that provides a more relaxed, fun, and rhythmic aspect to life. There are so many different genres and styles of dance that allow people to express their feelings and stay socially connected and engaged.

Sydney: I think the world needs dance because it is a way to express yourself. There are no words, so it is universal and has no language barriers. We can all understand each other.

WOD: What songs are you obsessed with right now/why?

1) “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles

Janette: He has a beautiful voice!

2) “Scared to Be Lonely” by Martin Garrix (Medasin Remix)

Kina: It makes me want to move even if I don’t completely understand the lyrics or meaning.

3) “Stay” by Zed, Alessia Cara

Sydney: I like this song because the song makes me want to stop everything I’m doing just to get a good 3:32 minute of hardcore head pounding and just a ton of I-don’t-care-what-anyone-thinks moments.

4) “Sinking” by Jeremy Zucker

Emily: It makes me want to dance and groove out.

5) “Young Dumb & Broke” by Khalid

Jana: I love this song because I feel like I am also a young, dumb, and broke high school kid!

6) “Perm” by Bruno Mars

Jadyn: It’s such a fun song to groove to!
