The 2017 World of Dance Finals will be held in Pasadena on July 22, 2017, and we can’t wait. This annual event features the winners of World of Dance competitions around the world—the best of the best—facing off to win the title, plus performances by industry starts, vendors, DJs, artists, and a lot more. In anticipation of this must-see event, we’re getting to know the many competitors from around the world.

Today, we’re meeting Artgee, Upper Division Winners for World of Dance South Korea 2017. We caught up with the crew to find out how they met, what it was like to compete in WOD, what they’re looking forward to, and more.

Crew name: Artgee

Title: Upper Division Winners for World of Dance South Korea 2017

Hometown: Daegu, South Korea

Members: Kang Sungu (Locking_crazysun), Ryu Juyoung (juda), Kim Kiyoung (robot_i), Kim Sungwook (tai), Seok Hansol (locking_dyugong), Choi Seungbin (Bboy_heady)

WOD: Can you give us a little background about the crew: how long have you been together/how did you meet?

A: We formed our crew in 2012. The dance scene in Korea is strong in Seoul. So many young friends who grow up in the local area go to Seoul. We wanted to guard the area called Daegu, so we gathered young dancers to show that they could grow into dancers good enough in their local area.

WOD: Other than winning first place, what was your favorite part of competing at the World of Dance qualifier?

A: Making special performances. The World of Dance Qualifier was a good stage to show our effort.

WOD: What’s your crew’s dance philosophy?

A: The core philosophy is communication. We need our visual language to communicate our story and communicate it through the language of sound. Audiences who see us communicate with each other will respond and communicate with each other. It’s all about communicating with positive energy. That’s our philosophy.

WOD: What are you most excited about for the WOD Finals in Pasadena?

A: Already our show in Korea was successful. We expect that American audiences will see it and react to it too.

WOD: Anything else before we go?

A: With this WOD, we will establish a channel to connect with various friends from abroad and get to introduce young friends who are dancing in the Daegu area. We hope to get a lot of interest and response.
