First big break: Dancing for Janet Jackson’s All for You Tour

How she got her start: Jenna Dewan Tatum, like the World of Dance judges Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough, is a household name who also got her start in dance. After attending the University of Southern California, the former cheerleader found herself in one of the most coveted jobs for a dancer: as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson’s 2001 All For You Tour.

While that achievement alone is a tremendous honor, it was only the start of Dewan Tatum’s career. In 2006, she showcased her impressive dancing and acting chops in the dance movie Step Up (where she also met her husband, Channing Tatum). This launched her career as an actress, resulting in numerous film and TV appearances, including stints on NBC’s The Playboy Club, American Horror Story: Asylum, and Lifetime’s Witches of East End.

But on May 30th she returns to her roots as a host/mentor on NBC’s World of Dance, where she gives support to the world’s best dancers as they compete for a $1 million prize. Along with celeb judges Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough, she says she’s eager to lend her support to help up-and-comers finally get their place in the spotlight.

“We’re all dancers. We’ve all been in this business as dancers. So we have that authenticity and that voice. We want to be part of that elevation for them,” she said at a recent press event in Beverly Hills.

To see Jenna Dewan Tatum in action, tune into NBC’s World of Dance May 30th at 10/9 central and watch the world’s best dancers battle it out for a whopping $1 million prize.
