Today, we’re meeting Nitrous Image Crew. We caught up with the crew to find out how they met, what it was like to compete in WOD, what they’re looking forward to, and more.
Crew name: Nitrous Image Crew
Title: Upper Division Winners World of Dance Philippines 2017
Hometown: Philippines
WOD: Can you give us a little background about the crew: how long have you been together/how did you meet?
NIC: Our crew was founded on 2003 and is still running after 14 years, from the first generation of members to the ones we have today. The team waited and worked for a long time before we got to what we have now. We have 5 handsome and cheerful leaders of this group, who treat one another as real brothers as well as the members of a happy family. They worked hard to train the members to improve and inspire them to dream big.
So many struggles and trials have tested how long the group would last. Some members have gone, yet we’re still here. We don’t really have a nice place to rehearse; we don’t have studios. We only have one light in the place for us to be able to see the routine and each other during rehearsals. The floorings are uneven and dusty because of sand. We get bruises and wounds. But we don’t take it as a problem; it is never an excuse to not fight for our dreams. We take it as a blessing, and we thank God that we have our rehearsal area where all our dreams started. And now we’re continuing and pursuing our goals together.
WOD: Other than winning first place, what was your favorite part of competing at the World of Dance qualifier?
NIC: Winning first place is a really great bonus to us, because it will be the first time—and a dream come true—that our team will be competing on the international world stage, plus the great support and love we are getting from our co-filipino dancers, family, and friends. Seeing people shouting, clapping, standing, and appreciating our craft after our performance in the WOD Qualifier is the best trophy we ever got. We’re overwhelmed and forever thankful to God for giving us this kind of talent.
WOD: What do you think made your performance stand out enough to win?
NIC: Maybe our great passion and love of dancing gave us the will to push harder to make this happen. We gave all our hearts while performing on stage. We especially know that God is dancing with us. He never leaves us, for we have faith in Him, we have faith in our dreams, we have love for each other, and we enjoy what we are doing.
WOD: What’s your crew’s dance philosophy?
NIC: There’s no excuse for not getting up and making your dream possible.
Dancing saves us from heartaches, problems, and bad doings.
Dancing expresses what and who we really are; it defines our love for it.
There are no limitations in learning and pushing ourselves to learn more.
Do what you love. You never know what will happen next, so make the most out of it.
Have strong faith in your dreams, fight for it, be loyal to it, work for it, and the rest of what you wish will follow. No matter how long it takes, don’t quit.
Faith and Trust God. Jesus said it wouldn’t be easy, but He said it would be worth it.
Dancing makes us happy, so we dance.
Just dance and love.
WOD: What are you most excited about for the WOD Finals in Pasadena?
NIC: We are kind of nervous yet excited. We really can’t explain the feeling of happiness we have. We want to make our country proud, our families, all the people who will support us. We will give our very best. Woo-hoo!! We have mixed emotions; our dreams will be coming true. We have so much love for the World of Dance Finals, and we can’t wait to see Pasadena.
WOD: Anything else before we go?
NIC: For all the Filipinos, this is for you. We will bring the support and love that you shared with us. God Bless everyone ,and see you WOD Finals in Pasadena. We are proud Filipino, SALAMAT, MAHAL NAMIN KAYONG LAHAT. (Thank you, we all love you so much.)
