To be a dancer of any kind, you need grace, focus, and determination. Beyond that, health and ability is key. But that doesn’t stop dancers like Jerron Herman, who was diagnosed with hemiplegia cerebral palsy and is now in his sixth year of a professional dance career.

Herman currently performs with Heidi Latsky Dance, a company that in fact focuses on dancers with similar disabilities. Herman is also the youngest member of the selection committee for The New York Dance & Performance Awards—AKA the Bessies.

Great Big Story put together a sincerely wonderful video about Herman, who is as casual about his cerebral palsy as he is profound about his passion for dance.

“Why dance? Primarily because of the physical diagnosis I was given. My body is the instrument and if I’m a disabled person and my body is the instrument, it’s pretty audacious.”

See Jerrod Herman in all his glory in the video below.
