Femme Fatale is all about fresh moves, female empowerment, and fierce talent. The group is made of Marie Poppins, Lily Frias, and Sumi Oshima, who are about to make their debut on the national stage during NBC’s World of Dance, the new dance competition show where the world’s best dancers compete for a $1 million prize. (See our episode 1 recap here in case you missed the premiere.) Getting on the show is a feat in itself, but the ladies of Femme Fatale are just beginning.

We recently caught up with them to find out what it was like to be judged by J-Lo, why they think the world needs dance, and more.

WOD: What was the best part of competing in World of Dance?

MP: Sharing the stage and the experience with my crew. Being surrounded by so many amazing dancers on the show inspired us to be better yet also to be grateful and acknowledge all the amazing and unique things that we have to offer as a crew. We have met so many talented dancers on this show, and we hope to work with them in the future.

WOD: Who’s your favorite judge, and why?

LF: I followed J-Lo since I was a kid. She played Selena, and that is one of my all-time favorite movies.

WOD: What do you love most about dance?

MP: Dance has the power to create happiness and express every emotion. It’s true that if you love dance and you are passionate about it, you can create a life—a world for you through your artistic creations—and you can share that with everyone. Dance is contagious, and it give us the ability to be who we are 100%.

WOD: Why do you think the world needs dance?

MP: For so many reasons!! People need to believe in something that is good and not necessary tangible, something that you can’t see but you can feel it through the body and with the music. I believe that people need human interaction, not on a screen but live and in person. Dance and music creates this: life experiences and memories that last forever and change lives.

WOD: What 5 songs are you obsessed with right now/why?

1) “Loyalty” by Kendrick Lamar ft. Rihanna

MP: We pretty much love these songs because of the smart and good lyrics with great music. That’s a good combo! 🙂

2) “H.E.R” by Focus

3) “Prblms” by 6LACK

4) “Heart Don’t Stand a Chance” by Anderson Paak

5) “That’s What I like” by Bruno Mars

MP: It’s my traffic jam! It always makes me happy and sing along.

WOD: Anything else before we go?

MP: We are very unique in our style, and we want to keep inspiring people to be different and original. Femme Fatale just performed at the Annual Los Angeles Salsa Congress. We are invited to perform in Japan at the competition WDC (world dance competition). And we will be competing in Japan for the biggest asian competition, Dance Delight.
Also, we actually have a forth member Dassy Lee (@dancerdassy) She was traveling and wasn’t able to join us for the TV show, but we can’t wait for everyone to see the power of us all together rocking the stage.
