Winning the 2015 World of Dance Finals was a complete turning point for dance crew the Desi Hoppers. Now, two years later, they returned to the stage that started it all and showcased their unique style and amazing performance skills.
We caught up with the Desi Hoppers at the 2017 finals to hear about returning to the stage.
WOD: How are you feeling after your performance?
DH: Our performance went well, we are very happy with the response we got. We had fun which is really what we were trying to do. We could feel the audience enjoyed our performance, even though we were worried that they might not understand where we are coming from. Our musicality is different and we weren’t sure if people would understand us. But they did understand us and appreciate our performance which was great.
WOD: How was it preparing for a showcase vs. a competition?
DH: We definitely wanted to bring a little Indian flavor back to the stage like we did in 2015. The idea behind our choreography was to make it more entertaining rather than competitive. Because we were showcasing we were sure to make it something the audience would understand and enjoy.
WOD: What was it like to be back on the WOD stage?
DH: WOD has given us a platform to be together. We weren’t really a crew before WOD, we formed our crew for WOD 2015. Since then the best thing that’s happened to us is that we’ve become a family, and we’ve sustained that because of WOD. It’s emotional for all of us to be back on an international stage, but mostly because we are back on the stage that got us together. We wanted to do our best and give our best.
