It’s no secret that dancing is great for your body as well as a pretty serious mood elevator. But it gets better. According to a recent study in the journal Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, dancing makes the brain more resilient in older individuals.
In the study, men and women in their 60s and 70s were separated into three groups. One took up a walking regimen, another started a stretching routine, and the final group began taking (country) dance lessons.
Six months later, those in the dancing group were found to have improved “wiring” in the fornix. That’s the area of the brain that most closely correlates with recall memory (details of past events, etc). So, remember, dancing is good for you, physically, emotionally, and, as it turns out, mentally too.
