After watching the Dance Theatre of Harlem’s short film High Above, it’s going to be impossible not to see them perform in New York this spring. Written by Charlie Sohne and directed by Daniel Schloss, the inspiring video four-minute video tells the story of a young black girl sneaking off to the city to see the performance of a stunning black ballerina after her ballet-loving grandmother passes away. As the soulful and thoughtful “High Above” by India Arie plays, we learn that ballet has been a bond for the women in the family and its youngest member is already training to one day grace the stage.
