Jennifer Lopez is an undeniably beloved multi-talented artist. She’s been in the game, or at least one game, since the late 1980s. Now, in addition to starring in NBC’s police drama Shades of Blue, Lopez is kicking things into high gear with NBC’s World of Dance next month. But even though she’s been around the block, there are a few things you might not know about her, despite such a long and epic career.

1. She was a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block.

It was her first gig! So this was before Lopez was even a ‘Fly Girl’ on In Living Color. In fact, she considers her big breakthrough to be dancing during NKOTB’s performance of “Games” at the 1991 American Music Awards.

2. She was also a backup dancer for Janet Jackson.

This too was in the early ‘90s. Although she was slated to do Jackson’s entire Janet tour, Lopez only completed the music video for Jackson’s “That’s the Way Love Goes.” That’s because Lopez called Jackson directly to let her know that she wanted out so she could do her own thing. That idea seemed to work out well.

3. She’s the reason why Google Image Search even exists.

After Lopez wore the infamous green chiffon Versace dress to the 2000 Grammy Awards, the Google crew realized they needed to create a whole new search capability. That’s because, according to Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt, “At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: J.Lo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born.”

4. She was the first person to have an album and a movie hit number one in the same week.

In January 2001, Lopez released her sophomore record J.Lo (January 23) and starred in The Wedding Planner alongside Matthew McConaughey (January 26). Not only did both things hit number one that same week, both actually debuted at number one. The power of Jenny from the Block!

5. She has released more than two dozen fragrances.

As of last year, Lopez has released 26 fragrances. It started with Glow by J.Lo in 2002 and her most recent release was 2016’s JLust. All of them have been for women, except one. She created Deseo for Men in 2008, immediately following the women-targeted version of the fragrance.

6. There’s a reason she looks as good as she does.

Lopez takes insanely good care of herself. She never smokes, and she doesn’t drink alcohol or coffee. She sleeps up to 10 hours a night and has two trainers. Perfection ain’t easy, people.
